About Us

Catholic Health Association (CHA) was founded as part of the decentralization process during the Golden Jubilee year of CHAI on 4th May 1993. Operating in three states: Bihar, Jharkhand and Andaman Nicobar Islands is one of the eleven Regional Units of Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), the largest Non-Governmental Health Organization of the World. Its main thrust is coordination of the member institutions and the people-oriented community based primary health and sustainable development.

The Member Institutions, in Catholic Health Association, comprise of 0-5 bedded Health Care Centers to small, medium, and large Hospitals. Social Service Societies, Schools & Colleges of Nursing and Homes for the differently abled. It has 321 Member Institutions across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Andaman &Nicobar Islands.

Catholic Health Association has a well-functioning Governing Board, which has its regular quarterly meetings, to plan Organizational strategies and policies.

Catholic Health Association closely works with across 15 Diocesan Health Units: These are Dumka, Daltonganj, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Khunti, Ranchi & Simdega (Jharkhand), Buxar, Purnea, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, Bhagalpur (Bihar) and Port blair (Andaman – Nicobar Islands). The Diocesan Health Units is well organized and the Member Institutions (MIs) of each Diocesan Health Unit from various orders, come together to plan, implement, and evaluate their Health and Development interventions. 

Catholic Health Association is registered under the Societies of Registration Act of 1860. The Registration Number is 285. Catholic Health Association is authorised to receive funds under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. CHA is granted tax exemption under 12A.
